I have been an advocate for a strenuous physical program for most of my adult life. I always afforded myself the luxury of eating whatever I wanted if I worked out hard enough. As I entered into the other side of 55 I noticed my physical performance beginning to ebb…which I attributed to age. At my last physical I got the news that Blood pressure (which had been historically on the low side) was now registering in the pre-hypertension range. A visit to the doctor got me on a regimen of BP medication and Beta-blockers….which totally sucked. I decided to see if altering my nutrition program (actually “lack” of a nutrition program) would help my overall health and blood pressure. It is a behavioral change approach that changes your awareness and application of food. Never once were the words “Calorie Reduction” mentioned. As a matter of fact my calorie consumption probably went up…..but what I ate changed drastically.
At the end of the 3 months the results were pretty incredible…Loss of 10 lbs, Body Fat percentage dropped from 14.7 in to the mid 12s range, Loss of 3 inches from my waist and 2.5 inches from my hips…which was great but the thing that really got to me was my jump in athletic performance. Through the support, education and coaching process I have made significant changes in the way I eat and approach food.
