Welcome everybody to week six of our spring training season.
Some of you may be excited a relieved to see the mileage drop down this week. It is time for a much need active recovery week. The other train of thought is to take advantage of this low mileage week and treat the Saturday schedule as a “dress rehearsal” for the upcoming races. I will leave this decision up to you, but several of us will be running this shorter mileage as if we were racing. This is a perfect time to get your body used to taking a walk break at a much faster race pace instead of the normal “long run” pace. If you are following the “schedule guidelines” sheet that goes with our training schedules, each day of running during the week has it’s own pace associated with it. Ideally all of these workouts are done without walk breaks. Therefore when you try to run “race pace” on the big day with walk breaks, sometimes your body is a little confused. Let’s eliminate that confusion and start getting your body adjusted now. If you need further clarification on this concept, please come see me Saturday after we get finished. Beginner mileage this week is 5 miles, the course however is set with the Intermediate/Advanced schedules to 7 miles.
