This Sunday, September 11 the cycling 🚴🏻 group is meeting at the East End bridge.

We have a nice 20 mile route that travels across the bridge into Indiana. The route is out and back so everyone can turn around whenever they want to head back.

Today’s #techniquethursday is a Spiderman Push-up 💪🏼

Try this:
- Start with a straight-arm plank and completely activate your core.
- Hands should be shoulder-width apart and located directly under the shoulders.
- Legs straight with the balls of the feet on the ground.
- Keeping your upper body rigid, lower your chest towards the floor while bringing one knee off to the side towards your elbow. Alternate legs with each push-up.
- Your knee and foot should be completely off the floor when traveling to the side.
- Resist the urge to twist your upper body while lowering to the floor. Keep your torso facing the floor.
- If proper depth cannot be achieved, place hands on an elevated surface to decrease the intensity.

This is a great variation to the traditional push-up. Expect to feel increased participation by your core and leg muscles. Give this a try. You will not be disappointed.

Cycling group today Sunday, September 4 is unfortunately cancelled due to weather.

We will be back next Sunday 🚴‍♂️!

1st weekend in September 🍁 🚴🏻 🏃‍♂️

This Sunday we are meeting at the Parklands of Floyds Fork. We usually gather down by the egg lawn near the pavilion.

We are cranking it up a little this week with a goal of 40 miles. This ride will be all on paved trails, no roads at all. The route is out and back so everyone can turn around whenever they want to head back.

#techniquethursday is a shin stretch 💪🏼

Try this:
- Start out kneeling on the ground with your knees shoulder width apart and your feet together with the toes pointing backwards.
- Start the stretch by sitting backwards onto your heels. Make sure your heels stay together and don't flare out.
- Start out holding the stretch for 30 seconds and work up to 1-2 minutes.

This is a nice way to stretch out your shins, ankles and feet. Give this a try!

#techniquethursday for 8/25 is a Step off

Try this 💪🏼
- Start out standing on a small box or another stable surface (could be stacked weight plates or even a step or curb). Adjust your positioning to stand only on your right foot with the left foot off to the side of the box.
- Once you can maintain your balance, start the exercise by lowering your left foot backwards and towards the floor. Lower slowly to only touch your heel on the ground. Do not place any weight on the floor at all. All of the pressure stays on the right foot at all times.
- While dropping towards the floor, always make sure you are dropping with weight distributed into the top heel to stop your knee from traveling out in front of your toe.
- Pivot forward at the waist to make sure your weight is distributed evenly.
- Start out with 8-10 reps per side on a low box. As your strength increases slowly increase the height of the box.

Give this lower body exercise a try. This is a nice change of pace from the traditional step up. I think you will be surprised how hard this is, especially if you do not place any weight on the floor. Enjoy!

#techniquethursday today is side plank with arm tu

#techniquethursday today is side plank with arm tuck 💪🏼

Try this:
- Start out lying on the floor on your left side. Stack your feet and tuck your left elbow directly underneath your left shoulder. Lift up into a side plank leaving only your left forearm (hand and elbow included) and feet on the ground.
- Make sure your shoulders are stacked directly on top of each other and place your right arm directly into the air pointing at the ceiling.
- Start the exercise by rotating your right shoulder forward to tuck your right arm through the air space underneath your left armpit. The idea is to twist your torso while leaving your lower body still.
- Finish the exercise by rotating your torso and right arm back upwards until your hand is again pointing towards the ceiling.
- Continue for a designated number of reps then switch sides and repeat.
- Start out with 10 reps per side and increase as you get stronger.

Often overlooked, rotational exercises that include several planes of motion are crucial for strengthening your abdomen and low back. Add this one to your core routine.
