Despite the potential for a miserable day, the weather cooperated somewhat. The little bit of rain that did come probably helped more than it hurt. Overall the weather turned out to be almost perfect for racing. We saw a lot of scared and uncertain faces at the start and some excited, tired faces at the finish. It was great to see everyone.
The new start and finish lines put a couple of kinks in our organized meeting areas. We tried to get some pictures at our scheduled meeting place close to the start, but the congestion was too overwhelming. We will have a much better area lined up for next year. The same thing happened at the finish. We tried to get as close as possible to the exit of the runners corral and did for a while but the KDF officials forced us to remove our banner from the tent. We stayed to cheer everyone on and take pictures, but it was hard to figure out who we were. Despite the kinks, we did get some great footage. Check out the new“Photo Gallery” post.
Next topic, the fall training season. Our main focus for the fall training season is the OBX marathon and half marathon. The weekly mileage will be designed around training for the marathon, but those training for the mini will just have to turn around a little earlier. We have a couple glitches in the training schedule at the beginning of June but, by the end of the month we should be in full training mode. We plan to resume the training on June 12th, will take a short hiatus on June 19th for the Families for Fathers 5K, then resume and get focused again for training on June 26th. Don’t forget that your membership is annual, everybody is welcome to continue training with us for the rest of the year, even if you are not planning to do an event. Just come and enjoy the friendships and stay in shape.
Have a great Derby week!!
See you soon.
