This week the marathon group is running 23 miles with the mini marathon group doing 11. Before you click on the link to check out the map, let me explain a few things. This is an “out & back” route, but it is on some new territory for this group (the Waterfront Trail). Here are a few reminders to help you with this course. After you finish running through Cox Park and cross over Zorn avenue, cross River road and get on the path in the old country club for as long as you can staying parallel with River road. When the path ends just run on the left side of River road into traffic until you get to the next park (Eva Bandman), then cross the street again and follow that path towards the marina. (still staying parallel with River road). Now you will remain on the Waterfront path all the way past Tumbleweed towards the walking bridge. Stay on the path until you get to the tall set of concrete stairs taking you halfway up the ramp to the walking bridge. Run on the bridge to the end and back, but now take the entire ramp coming down, get some water at the end and then continue heading west towards downtown this time on the sidewalk. THIS IS WHERE WE HAVE CHANGED THE ORIGINAL PLAN SLIGHTLY. DUE TO CONSTRUCTION ISSUES FURTHER DOWN THE TRAIL, WE DECIDED TO DO A SMALL LOOP IN THIS AREA. AFTER LEAVING THE BRIDGE RAMP AND HEADING RIGHT TOWARDS DOWNTOWN, SIMPLY TURNAROUND AT THE SIGN POSTED BY STACEY AND HEAD BACK EXACTLY THE SAME WAY YOU CAME. WHEN YOU GET BACK TO EVA BANDMAN PARK (WATER STOP), TURNAROUND AND DO THE SECTION ONE MORE TIME BEFORE HEADING HOME. THAT LITTLE LOOP IS APPROXIMATELY 5.50 MILES. THAT LOOP TWICE PLUS THE 6 OUT AND BACK WILL GET YOU 23 GLORIOUS MILES. Stacey is only going to mark arrows and mile markers until you get to Eva Bandman park. Use these directions from that point. You will pass several opportunities within Waterfront park for bathrooms and water. Take advantage of these as needed. Here is the route for this week.
One more thing, I need to ask a favor of you guys. We (The Training Studio) are sponsoring the local fall marathon called Louisville’s Dream Factory Marathon. It is held on Sunday, October 20th. We need to round up at least 30 volunteers to help with waters stops, etc.. We have all run several races over the years and now it is time to give back. Please find the time to volunteer with us Sunday morning (October 20th). Email me if you are interested in helping out. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
We are getting very close to reaching our goal of 30 participants in St. Louis. (25 so far) Here is the list I have thus far. If you see someone I have left off, please let me know. Click HERE to email me.
